In 1987, England hosted the second IFMAR (International Federation of Model Race Cars) world championships for off-road electric cars.

In addition to the standard Optima, the Kyosho team entered a mid-engined prototype in the 4WD category. Running under the project name "Optima Mid", the prototype astonished the world by making it into five of the ten cars qualifying for the A final, but unfortunately missed out on the top prize by finishing a credible second, demonstrating its exceptional performance potential.

The prototype was close to the final product marketed under the official name of "Optima Mid", allowing drivers around the world to discover its revolutionary capabilities.

Still as popular as the 1980 original, the Optima Mid joined Kyosho's Vintage "Legendary series" with its rebirth in 2022.

To commemorate Kyosho's 60th anniversary in 2023, the original Optima Mid World Championship prototype will be issued in a limited edition.

While sharing the same basic configuration as the standard Optima Mid, the World Championship prototype featured several optional production parts and a special body, which has been recreated with a new mold and combined with a large polycarbonate rear spoiler.

A special decal is also included to reproduce the original color scheme.

Aluminum parts have been modified from the original gold to a gun-chic metallic color, in combination with special color wheels to create a unique look for the limited edition 60th anniversary model.

The World Championship Optima Mid prototype that was never released in its original form in 1987 is upgraded with modern racing technology so you can enjoy Kyosho's anniversary year with dynamic performance using the latest RC systems and power sources.

• The slipper is reinforced and supports the power of modern brushless motors. Settings can be modified by installing optional UM516 pads (white/RB5/2Pcs).

• Optima Pro bodywork used in the 1987 world championships, featuring cut lines for the central chassis.

• A large polycarbonate rear spoiler combined with large side plates is identical to that of the World Championship car.

• Several optional parts for the existing Optima Mid are included in the standard equipment. The aluminum parts are finished in the gunmetal Works-spec color unique to this limited-edition model.

• Equipped with soft front and rear tires as standard, for great grip and dynamic handling.

• Includes stickers to recreate the world championship model of Optima series designer Mr. Akira Kogawa, as well as a sticker commemorating Kyosho's 60th anniversary.

• The new main gear shaft has been upgraded from conventional steel to the lighter, stronger, hard-anodized super duralumin 7075. Contributes to improved throttle response.

• Front and rear shock absorbers are gunmetal-anodized, and the shafts are titanium-coated for improved wear resistance.
Front and rear springs are tensioned via fine collars.

• Standard front and rear ball differentials ensure smooth cornering characteristics.

• The steering arms are also equipped with bearings.
