Kyosho MP10, MP10e, TKI2 shock springs chart and guide

- Categories : Reno's tutorials

Since the release of the Kyosho Inferno MP10 TKI2 with long shocks and high shock towers, new springs have emerged and many of you have asked me which springs to use for which conditions.

I'm going to make it very simple because that's what I apply. It may not be the optimal solution for all conditions, but at least you are sure not to get lost and to always be right.

MP10e

Kyosho Inferno MP10e

The MP10e kits (and first version of MP10 nitro) come with the short shocks (47mm and 55mm) and low towers (IF604 and IF605).

In this case, you need 70mm springs for the front and 81mm for the rear.

The springs delivered as standard, red in front and light purple for the rear, are a great compromise and you will have a great car feeling from the start.

If you use Shorty batteries mounted on the front of the car, you may not get less than 28mm ground clearance.

This is normal, after a few packs, the springs will settle and you can use whatever ground clearance you like (this is even truer with red or dark blue springs).

If you drive on synthetic (astroturf, pavement, glued track), or tracks with high grip but without holes, I advise you to go on the dark blue springs in front and red in the back.

As with the MP10e, you will only need the red, dark blue and light purple springs in 70mm for the front and 81mm for the rear with the same range of use.

A base in red/light purple, then dark blue/red if flat track with grip, even dark blue also behind on track with strong grip.

Be careful though, you will have to pack the dark blue springs if you want to use them at the back in this configuration.

As stated above, the MP10 TKI2 is the latest 1/8 nitro off-road buggy in the Kyosho range and it features the latest improvements offered by Team Kyosho International.

The long shocks (IF626 and IS215) as well as the high towers (IFW623 and IFW624) bring more comfort and better behavior on the bumps than its predecessor.

The original springs are grey, 78mm at the front and 95mm at the rear.

These springs are fine to start with the car, but not the best for my taste. They provide good general behavior, but their greater length makes them softer.

It can be interesting if the track is slippery, because you will have a more comfortable car and take more roll, but overall they are too soft.

The car sometimes "dives" in the middle of a corner, which makes it less precise and gives it a rather unpleasant "pitching" phenomenon in the high speed sections for example.

For the TKI2, I therefore advise you to use the same springs as on the MP10 and MP10e, that is to say the springs 70mm in front and 81mm in the back.

Their shorter length will make them stiffer, and give your car much more precision.

A base therefore in red in front and light purple for the back.

This is also the case if you use the IFW631 and IFW632 carbon shock towers, and also if you use the tall shock towers and long shocks on your MP10e.

Only if the track is very bumpy, you can switch to longer springs (81mm at the front and 85mm at the rear), which will be softer and give more comfort while compromising on precision.

Under these conditions only, I recommend a setup in 81mm red in front and 85mm purple behind.

In my opinion, you mainly need in the trolley bag:

For the front:

For the back:

As a reminder, here is the table of all the springs available with their references.

Corrections to Kyosho's chart: 85mm Blue spring is IFS003-915, not IFS002. 85mm Red spring is IFS003-9515, not IFS002.
