Aluminum ride height gauge
Aluminum ride height gauge
The next generation of 1/10th off-road racing revolves around setup, precision and accuracy. The JConcepts ride height gauge, manufactured from aluminum billet material is brilliantly machined to high specifications and anodized to a luster. The detailed instrument is available in either blue or black anodizing and laser etched with graduated measurements from 10-40mm for use on a variety of vehicles.
The ride height gauge comes preassembled with 4mm hardware for the pivot and 3mm setscrew and thumbscrew as the setting knob. The structure features chamfered silver edging, highlighting the design. The touch-off point on the gauge is a rounded boss and always meets the chassis at the proper angle. Each gauge comes in a latch box with foam insert which fits snugly around the instrument with heavy cushion. When racing gets serious, get precise with JConcepts.
Every setup sheet contains ride height information and the only way to achieve it properly is with a trusty gauge. The ride height gauge simply operates with 2 pivoting pieces. Checking the ride height is done by placing the base against a setting board or flat surface. The user operates the pivoting arm freely to touch off against the bottom of the vehicle chassis. At the touch point, secure the thumb screw on the gauge and check the etched marking.
To set the ride height, secure the thumbscrew on the etched number which is preferred. Place the gauge underneath the vehicle (front and rear) at the predetermined height and touch the suspension to the gauge. If a gap exists, raise shock collars to lower the ride height until it's matched to the gauge. If no gap exists or the spacing is too tight, lower the shock collars to raise the ride height to the desired amount. Most racers like a half millimeter space or a small feeling of space during a final check.

Ride height gauges are one of, if not, the single most important piece of set-up kit in your tool tray...whatever discipline you race. I've tried all different types at one time or another and whilst they've worked fine etc, the JConcepts Alu gauge is the first one I've felt has given me real consistency when making set-up changes, whether that's in the pits or at home on the bench, no matter where I place it on the set-up board and under the car. The design of the gauge is done so that the contact point of the arm is weighted by the scale end...all you need to do is slide it under the car, let it go and the contact point simply lifts itself up and you have your reading. The scale is graduated in mm's and is nicely etched into the Alu, so easy to read. There is also a round knurled lock-off on the gauge, should you want to keep the contact point set at one measurement. Check out Reno's Youtube video, where he explains all about ride heights and how to set them. Here you'll also see the JConcepts gauge in action and how hassle free it is to set your ride heights using one.
